Sudden death, Surfers Paradise

Gold Coast detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in Surfers Paradise early this morning.

Police were called to a View Avenue apartment block just after 3am where the body of a 19-year-old Brisbane man was located.

Initial investigations indicate the man fell from a balcony.

As a result, police attended a unit above where four teenage males were in a semi- conscious state, after consuming prescription drugs.

All four were transported to Robina Hospital in a stable condition.

Earlier, around 2:20am, two 16-year-old boys believed to be from the same group were arrested between View Avenue and the Esplanade for possession of prescription drugs. 

Investigations are continuing.

Update: Gold Coast detectives have charged three men with murder following the death of a 19-year-old man in Surfers Paradise on Saturday morning.

Police were called to a View Avenue apartment complex around 3.15am where the body of a 19-year-old Brisbane man was located at the base of the building.

Detectives will allege a group of people from one unit armed with a knife attended another unit where a robbery occurred prior to the man’s death.

Three men, aged 18, 20 and 22, were arrested overnight and all charged with one count of murder and two counts of armed robbery.

The 18-year-old is due to appear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court tomorrow while the other two men are expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Investigations into the incident are continuing.

Update 2: Police today charged two 16-year-old girls with murder relating to the ongoing investigation into the death of a 19-year-old man in Surfers Paradise in May this year.

The two girls were both charged with one count of murder, one count of stealing, two counts of robbery, two counts of torture and two counts of deprivation of liberty.

The charges follow the discovery of the teenager’s body at the base of an apartment complex at View Avenue, Surfers Paradise, in the early hours of May 23.

Detectives will allege a group of people from one unit armed with a knife attended another unit where a robbery occurred prior to the man’s death.

Three men, aged 18, 20 and 22, were previously charged with one count of murder and two counts of armed robbery. On June 2 the three men were also charged with two counts of torture and one count of stealing.

Investigations into the incident are continuing.

The two girls appeared in Southport Children’s Court today.
