Armed robbery, Maryborough

Police have charged two people in relation to the alleged armed robbery of a service station in Maryborough and a break-in at Rainbow Beach.

Around 12am this morning (July 23), three people rammed the glass doors of a bottle shop in a Rainbow Beach Road shopping centre using a shopping trolley. They then placed multiple bottles of alcohol in the trolley and fled.

Around 1.45am, three people entered a service station at the intersection of the Bruce Highway and Quarry Road. They demanded cash and cigarettes, threatening the attendant with a machete.

They took the money and goods and fled.

The 31-year-old male attendant was not physically harmed during the incident.

Around 6am, police executed a search warrant at a Hibiscus Street, Urangan address and allegedly located alcohol, cigarettes and cash. Two men were later arrested at a Beach Road address.

A 19-year-old man from Urangan was charged with three counts of entering a premises to commit an indictable offence, two counts of entering a premises to commit an indictable offence by break, two counts of evading police, and one count each of entering a premises with intent to commit an indictable offence, receiving tainted property, armed robbery and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

An 18-year-old man from Pialba was charged with eight counts of entering a premise to commit an indictable offence by break, two counts of evading police, and one count each of entering a premise with intent to commit an indictable offence, receiving tainted property, armed robbery and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

They are both due to appear in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court tomorrow (July 24).

Police investigations are continuing into these two incidents along with recent break and enter offences in Hervey Bay, Torbanlea, Craignish and River Heads.
